You’ve made the decision to study the Word more and to draw closer to God this year, but sometimes that might be easier said than done. Here are some ways to make the desire of your heart to become closer to God a reality.
- Be still. Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night and couldn’t go back to sleep? When those times happen, instead of scrolling through social media or turning on the television, use that time to pray and talk to God. It doesn’t have to be fancy or formal. Just lay in bed and pour out the desires of your heart, and don’t forget to listen. God speaks in a still, quiet voice, so it’s hard to hear Him when you are busy and constantly on the go.
- Read your Bible. Reading God’s Word is a great way to learn more about Him and to grow as a believer. If you’re new to studying the Bible or would like tips on how to study, check out our post, Five Tips to Help You Study the Bible. When studying the Bible, you’re looking for quality over quantity. It’s better to read one verse and understand it than to read one chapter and not understand it.
- Put on some worship music. When is the last time you told God thank you? Let God speak to your spirit as you praise and worship him though song. You can listen to music for free on apps like YouTube and Spotify.
- Write it down. Whether it’s a prayer list or journaling your thoughts, use the written word to share what God has done for you and through you and to have a record and reminder of how He has blessed you and others.
- Use your gifts. You are on this earth for a reason. Use your innate gifts to serve the body of Christ and to be a blessing to others. Unsure of your gifts? Take this quiz.
